Node (network node)
A node is a computer that keeps a full copy of the blockchain and checks every new transaction itself.
Explained simply
The blockchain network consists of many nodes. Each stores the complete history and checks incoming transactions and blocks against the network's rules. Anything that breaks the rules is rejected.
The more independent nodes there are, the harder the network is to manipulate or shut down. Anyone can run a node; for Bitcoin an ordinary computer is enough.
From the familiar world
Every branch of a bank would hold the bank's entire general ledger on site and recompute every booking itself before accepting it. No headquarters deciding alone.
An example
The Bitcoin network counts many thousands of publicly reachable nodes worldwide, spread across all continents. No country and no company operates the majority.
Why it matters
The number and distribution of nodes is a tangible measure of decentralisation. Anyone comparing networks looks at this figure rather than marketing claims.
To pass on
„A node is a computer that has the whole ledger and recomputes every booking itself.“
