On-chain data
On-chain data is the publicly visible information from the blockchain itself: transactions, balances, activity, from which the behaviour of market participants can be read.
Explained simply
Because every blockchain transaction is public, the entire market can be observed in real time: how many addresses hold a balance? How much is deposited to exchanges (a possible sell signal) or withdrawn? How long do investors hold their coins?
No other asset class offers this: with shares you see prices and announcements but not what each investor does. With Bitcoin you can, albeit anonymised by address.
Specialised providers turn this data into metrics. They replace no price forecast but give an unusually transparent picture of market structure.
From the familiar world
A land registry everyone can read in real time: you do not see the names, but every transfer, every size, every holding period. Nothing like it exists for shares.
An example
Analysts watch the share of bitcoin that has not moved for over a year. A high share points to long-term holders, a falling one to selling.
Why it matters
On-chain data is a unique feature of the asset class and a good reason why analysis pays off here. For clients it is proof that blockchain creates transparency, not concealment.
