Liquidity
Liquidity describes how easily an asset can be bought or sold without noticeably moving the price.
Explained simply
In a liquid market you always find a buyer at the current price. In an illiquid market even a medium-sized sale pushes the price down, or there is simply no taker.
Bitcoin and Ether trade around the clock on many venues worldwide and are considered liquid. Thousands of small tokens are not: anyone holding larger amounts there may not get out without a loss.
One sign of liquidity is the spread, the gap between bid and ask price. The tighter it is, the more liquid the market.
From the familiar world
A flat in Düsseldorf sells within weeks, a holiday home in a remote spot perhaps within years. Both are property, but their liquidity is completely different.

The approval of US Bitcoin ETFs boosted liquidity for Bitcoin sharply: institutional investors now trade via the exchange, with deep order books and tight spreads.
Why it matters
Liquidity decides whether a position can be sold when it matters. For small tokens it is often the real source of risk, ahead of volatility.
