Institutional adoption refers to the entry of banks, asset managers, insurers and pension funds into digital assets and blockchain infrastructure.

For a long time crypto was a topic for retail investors and tech enthusiasts. Since around 2020 the big players have arrived: launching products, building custody solutions, tokenising funds and testing blockchain-based settlement.
The turning point was the approval of spot Bitcoin ETFs in the US in January 2024, launched by the world's largest asset managers. Since then Bitcoin has arrived in ordinary portfolios and investment strategies.
Institutions bring capital but also requirements: regulation, custody, reporting duties. That professionalises the market.

When supermarkets started stocking organic products, that was the moment organic went from health-food-store niche to standard. Institutional adoption is that moment for digital assets.
