Narrative
A narrative is the story through which the market gives a topic meaning; capital often follows narratives before the fundamentals become visible.
Explained simply
"Digital gold", "tokenisation of everything", "AI needs decentralised computing": these are narratives. They bundle many individual developments into an understandable story, and they steer where attention and capital flow.
Narratives are neither good nor bad. Some hold (Bitcoin as a store of value), others fizzle out (many NFT promises). The art lies in recognising early which story has substance.

From the familiar world
"The internet is changing commerce" was a narrative in 1998. It was true, but most companies betting on it then did not survive the bursting of the bubble. Narrative right, selection decisive.
An example
The "real world assets" narrative started as a niche topic in DeFi and within two years was taken up by the largest asset managers, with tokenised funds in the billions.
Why it matters
Anyone who can name and contextualise narratives comes across in client conversations as someone who knows the big picture. That is exactly the composure clients expect from their adviser.
